Bluehost offers standard cPanel hosting, that comes with its file manager, which can be used to download and upload files. But, nothing beats the freedom and comfort of using an FTP client on the desktop, to connect to your hosting account for uploading or downloading files.

For the new user, this might be overwhelming and sounds technical to connect to your FTP account. When I started blogging, 9 years back it was my first time, and I was afraid that I might end up breaking something.

Do remember, till the time you are not deleting or overwriting anything, there is nothing to worry about.

In this tutorial, I will be guiding you on how you can connect to your Bluehost hosting FTP account via a desktop FTP client. Few things to know:

• This method will be same for almost all cPanel hosting.
• I will be using FileZilla for this tutorial but using the same method you can use any other FTP clients like Cyberduck.

Connecting to Bluehost cPanel FTP account from Desktop

To get started, you need three things: Host Address, Username, and password. Once you have all these three things, you can use any FTP client to connect to Bluehost FTP account.

If you need to connect via SSH, you can refer to this guide. Let’s solve your query of Bluehost FTP login:

• Host Address: This will be your primary domain name. A domain name which you used when purchasing your Bluehost account or primary domain name in your account.
• Username: This will be same as your cPanel login username. One which you use to login to your Bluehost account.
• Password: This will be same as your Bluehost login password.

FTP port will be 21.

To get started, simply download FileZilla from official download page over here. You need FileZilla client to log in to your hosting FTP account. Once downloaded, simply install FileZilla, and enter the details as shown in below image. Replace the detail with the one you have with you:

Enter the details as shown in the above image, and click on quick connect. You will start seeing the response, and finally, you will be connected to your hosting account via FTP. Your screen will look something like the below image:

Now, just for some understanding:

The left panel is your local computer (your desktop), and the right one is your hosting account FTP. If you have installed WordPress and need to make changes there, click on Public_html and there you will find all directory associated with your WordPress installation.

From the right panel, you can select any file and folder, and right-click to upload it to the working directory of your remote site. If you are doing it for the first time, start with one file, and you will know where the files are going. This will be fun, and you will start learning using FTP hosting.
