How To Point Domain From GoDaddy to Bluehost

In my earlier guide on Bluehost Addon domain, I mentioned about how easy it is to point a domain from any domain registrar to Bluehost by changing the Domain Nameserver. For many users who are not technical, find it hard to follow the instruction without a clear screenshot.

Therefore, Here I’m sharing a quick guide on pointing domain from Godaddy domain panel to Bluehost. Let me out the situation in layman language:

  • You just bought a hosting from Bluehost
  • You have a couple of domains on Godaddy, and you want to point your domain to Bluehost and Host your site on Bluehost.

The process is very simple, and all we need to do it update the Name server of the domain on Godaddy to point to Bluehost.

Later use Bluehost addon domain service to add these domains to your Bluehost account. By the end, your domain will still be on Godaddy, but you can install Website on them using Bluehost hosting.

Quick guide on pointing GoDaddy Domain to Bluehost

To get started, log in to your GoDaddy account, and go to domain manager section. Select the domain that you want to host/point to Bluehost. Launch the domain manager, and you will see a screen like this.

Under Nameservers tab, click on Manage, select Name Servers type as custom, and change Nameserverservers to point to Bluehost Name server.

Here are the default Nameservers of Bluehost:

  • NS1.Bluehost.com
  • NS2.bluehost.com

Your final screen will look like this:

Now, it will usually take 5 minutes to-4 hours for changes to reflect globally. Meanwhile, you can quickly add this domain to your Bluehost account, install WordPress and make your site ready for the launch.

Be it GoDaddy, NameCheap, Google domains or any other domain registrar, the process is going to be the same.

If you are using any other domain registrar, and facing issues with pointing domain from your Domain registrar to your Bluehost account, Do let me know via comment, and I will give you the solution for the same.

  • I have a domain registered with some registrant. I did the DNS's change days ago, but I still couldn't access to the web page. The registrant told me that this happen because my hosting (bluehost) has to authorize this.

Is like bluehost DNS are blocking or not authorizing the consulting or something like that.

    Could you help me please.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I am brand new to self hosting. I mean BRAND new! I had purchased my domain name on godaddy and then paid for hosting on Blue Host but didn't know what to do after that. After googling, I found this post and followed it. It worked! Thanks so much!!

  • Your instructions worked perfectly for me! I don't use GoDaddy that often, so I find navigating around in the Admin panel to be a little quirky. Your post made changing the Named servers a breeze.

  • I have paid for the domain on godaddy, is it a good move to then pay to use bluehost to use wordpress and redirect from godaddy. Also am I paying for the domain on godaddy and hosting on bluehost ? I'm a bit new to all this.

  • Is it the best option to pay for the domain on go daddy and pay for hosting on bluehost, so I can use wordpress efficiently?

  • Without knowing, I bought hosting in in.bluehost.com instead of bluehost.com... I bought a pro hosting package (Supports more than one website) with the domain name

Now, I want to add another domain to the hosting. I bought it from godaddy and is planning to host it through in.bluehost.com. The option which you showed above are for bluehost and I would be happy if you can help me in saying the new domain hosting isteps n in.bluehost.com

    • @KUMAR
Have you made that purchased knowingly or unknowingly? Right now I don't have any tutorial for Bluehost India, but will soon add a tutorial on the same.

      • Unknowingly Harsh... I thought Bluehost India is a Bluehost owned Indian version (I want to pay in INR and when I saw Bluehost India, I thought they were offering it in India.) Unfortunately, it was not the thing.

Will be waiting for your tutorial on Bluehost India.
